A bittersweet gift for the New Year

6 weeks after her husband Yossi was killed in a Grad missile attack on Beer Sheva, Lilach Shoshan gave birth to a son yesterday, Yom Kippur.

Lilach Shushan, whose husband was killed in a rocket attack in August, gave birth on Saturday at Beersheba’s Soroka Medical Center.

Lilach’s husband, Yossi, 38, was killed when a Grad rocket fired from the Gaza Strip hit his car while he was driving in Beersheba.

“It was hard not to have Yossi here,” Lilach said. “I thought about him. I felt him here with us in the room, in front of me, while I was giving birth.”

Lilach was taken to the hospital around 1 pm by ambulance, and gave birth to a boy – Shimon, named after Yossi’s father.

“I don’t know yet what will be his middle name,” she said.

Lilach wished to thank Beersheba’s mayor, who has provided his support over the difficult period after her husband’s death.

Mazal tov to Lilach and may your new son bring you nachas, joy and comfort. May he grow up to be a credit to you, his father Yossi z”l and all of Israel.

oy I have tears in my eyes. Mazal tov Lilach . May your son be a comfort to you & bring you nachat & and be a source of pride for you. May he grow up to be strong & continue to go in his fathers footsteps. What a sad world we live in Maybe take him to the UN & show them your baby & ask how to explain to him the “peace partners” we are meant to be dealing with.
