The traitors who sit in Israel’s Knesset

MK Hanin Zoabi meets with Hamas officials

One has to be very careful about accusing others of dual loyalty since that is a favourite demonizing tool used by anti-Semites against the Jews in other countries, but it is very hard to avoid such an accusation against some of the Arab MKs who sit in our Knesset and apparently consort with Israel’s most sworn and murderous enemies, the Hamas terrorist group.

During a raid of Hamas’s office in the West Bank town of Tulkarm last month, an IDF unit found a photograph of MK Hanin Zoabi (National Democratic Assembly) in which she is seen alongside senior Hamas officials.

Zoabi was photographed while standing in a room with four other people, among whom was Aziz Dweik, speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), and Maryam Saleh, the former women’s affairs minister in the Hamas government in Gaza. The Hamas officials have both served prison sentences in Israel for belonging to a terrorist group.

The Jerusalem Post reports that it was not only Hanin Zoabi who met with the Hamas officials, but other Arab MKs too:

Another photo showed Dweik with United Arab List- Ta’al MKs Ibrahim Sarsour and Masud Gnaim.

A UAL-Ta’al source said that this is not the first time Sarsour and Gnaim have taken pictures with Dweik, and that Sarsour has visited the Hamas official in Jerusalem several times.
A UAL-Ta’al source said that this is not the first time Sarsour and Gnaim have taken pictures with Dweik, and that Sarsour has visited the Hamas official in Jerusalem several times.

What is worse about this miserable affair is that Zoabi is both utterly unrepentant and quite open about her traitorous liaisons:

Following the discovery of the picture, Zoabi said, “This meeting took place two years ago, and it wasn’t a secret meeting. The photos were published back then as well. I don’t see anything wrong with it. Hamas was elected in democratic elections and it represents the Palestinian people. The whole world recognizes Hamas. Therefore, it’s about time that Israel also recognizes it and sits down with its leaders.

Zoabi is wrong on several counts here – and she knows it.  And if she doesn’t, she ought to.  Besides the glaringly obvious fact that she sees nothing wrong with meeting with terrorists – an action which itself is proscribed by Israeli law which is sworn to uphold – Hamas may have been elected in “democratic” elections but they have no idea of democracy, since they made sure not to share power with PA members who were also elected, going as far as democratically throwing them off rooftops.

Further, the whole world most definitely does not recognize Hamas, except simply as a murderous terrorist group. In fact it is banned in most civilized countries.

Other MKs and officials vociferously protested Zoabi’s actions and her unrepentant attitude about it, and demanded that legal action be instigated against her:

MK Ofir Akunis (Likud) said he would act to disqualify Zoabi from running in the next general elections, and added that, “Arab MKs continue to cross all boundaries and use Israeli democracy in order to kill it from the inside.”

MK Uri Yehuda Ariel (National Union) said, “We’re talking about a traitor who still deserves to be tried for treason for the Marmara events.”

In criticism of both Zoabi and United Arab List-Ta’al MK Ahmad Tibi, MK Otniel Schneller (Kadima) said, “Ms. Zoabi and Mr. Tibi act like they are on a reality TV show trying to win the hearts of terrorists from Gaza. The hour has come for the attorney-general, the courts and the Knesset to unify and kick them out of the race and return them to Gaza like any other [reality TV] castoff.”

The Legal Forum for the Land of Israel demanded that Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein order the opening of a criminal investigation into Zoabi’s meeting with the Hamas officials. “Her photographs prove that her loyalties are suspect,” the forum said.

None of this should shock anyone who knows Hanin Zoabi. She participated in the Turkish sponsored Mavi Marmara flotilla to Gaza, and yet received the equivalent of a slap on the wrist from the Knesset’s pathetic ethics committee.

Perhaps if she had been properly punished for her treason at the time (and participating in a terrorist-sponsored enemy action against your own state is indeed treason), we wouldn’t find ourselves in this absurd situation today. This woman needs to be removed from the Knesset immediately. Behind bars is where she and her cohorts belong.
