The violence in the south of Israel has escalated alarmingly over the last 36 hours, and from this afternoon, terrorists from Gaza have fired over 40 missiles into southern Israel.

Rocket and mortars rained on southern Israel Tuesday as tensions between Israel and Gaza escalated dramatically.

One rocket hit landed ina  built-up area in the Hof Ashkelon region, setting a fire and injuring four people according to initial reports. One person is in serious condition and the other three were lightly injured by shrapnel.

The seriously injured man was identified as a Border Police officer who was injured when the rocket landed near his vehicle.

Three Grad missiles were fired at the town of Netivot at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. All three landed in open areas near the town.

Several rockets were fired into the Eshkol, Hof Ashkelon, Sdot Negev and Shaar Hanegev regions in the morning and afternoon into the night.

Israeli planes struck the central Gaza strip following the second volley of rockets, killing two terrorists in a rocket-launching squad, the Israel Defense Forces said on its website. Military sources promised to respond to the rocket fire, Channel 2 news reported.

The rocket strikes were the latest salvo in a period which has seen multiple cross-border incidents involving Gazan terrorists and the IDF.

Responsibility for the morning rocket fire was claimed by Izz ad-Din al-Qassam brigades, Hamas’s military wing, which said it was aiming at an IDF base at Zikim, close to Ashkelon. It said it fired them in response to the death of one of its members, who was killed in an Israeli strike on Monday — itself a response to previous rocket fire from Gaza.

In its report about this missile onslaught and the IDF response to it, Ynet reports that the Palestinians are claiming that a 2 year old girl was killed by an IAF air strike, which the IAF has vehemently denied:

Also on Tuesday, Palestinian sources said a two-year-old girl was killed and her brother was wounded as a result of an explosion in their home in the Zeitun neighborhood, east of Gaza City.

The Palestinians claimed that the explosion was a result of an IAF strike – an allegation the IDF vehemently denies.

Later Tuesday night an IDF Spokesperson’s statement said that no strike was launched at the area and that the explosion was a result of a Qassam rocket, which hit the two’s home.

Elder of Ziyon has more on the lying Arabic media, noting that only Ma’an has an accurate report:

From Ma’an:

A Palestinian toddler was killed Tuesday evening in an explosion south of Gaza City, medics said.

Emergency services spokesman Adham Abu Salmiya said in a statement that Hadil al-Haddad, 2, was killed and her brother was injured in the Zaitoun neighborhood of Gaza City.

A Hamas medical official told Reuters the cause of the child’s death was not clear. Witnesses said she was killed when militants launched a rocket close by.

An Israeli military spokesman told Ma’an the army had not attacked that area. He said the army’s initial investigation suggested al-Haddad’s death was caused by a failed rocket launch by Palestinian militants.

The Elder finishes off with this staggering statement:

UPDATE: The BBC tweets that Hamas knows they are lying.

Here’s the BBC’s tweet so that you can believe your own eyes:

I’m still scraping my jaw off the floor.

  1. Elliott E Alhadeff says:

I read recently that in Spain, a pig was buried at a site where a mosque was to be built and resulted in the abandonment of the building plan. Israel placed pig’s lard on its public busses and stopped the bombing. Why doesn’t somebody get a drone and spray pig’s blood all over northern Gaza (or all of the disputed territories) and keep that area from being used by idiot Islamists to launch bombs?

    • anneinpt says:

It would be nice to think that Israel spread pigs lard on its buses but I’m afraid that’s an urban myth. In fact I’ve never heard of it at all. I think you’re confusing it with the British who stopped Arab terrorism by wrapping the bodies of dead terrorists in pigskin or lard, back in the 1930s. The only thing that stopped the suicide bombers in israel is the separation wall and heightened IDF activity, plus the dawning realization on the part of the Palestinians that violence gets them nowhere, whereas cooperation brings them benefit.

The IDF’s drones are certainly used over Gaza, but not to spray pigs blood. Rather they’re used to pinpoint terrorists so that the IAF can kill them before they kill us. Where I agree with your sentiment is that the IDF/IAF could act much more massively in Gaza if the politicians would agree to it.

      • Elliott E Alhadeff says:

See for example “Why there are no suicide bombers on Israeli buses” at

        • Scipio says:

That whole article is pure B.S.
The Security Fence and counter terror methods have stopped suicide bombings.
          Look up Occams Razor.

        • cba says:

Elliott, I live here, and I assure you there’s no pig’s lard on Israeli buses. It’s a figment of someone’s fevered imagination.

          • Thank you for your reply. I’m not sure if I should be comforted or disappointed. I think we both know how relieved the prospective terrorist must be.

            • cba says:

I don’t think a prospective terrorist would care at all even if there WERE pig lard.

If all their sins are forgiven (even the sin of consorting with women as some of the 9/11 terrorists did the night before) by blowing themselves and kuffar to kingdom come, then a little pig-lard isn’t going to bother them when they’ve got “martyrdom” on their minds.

And don’t forget they would still get their 72 virgins.
Orthodox Jews (who have way too much influence in Israel) would never allow pigs lard on buses any way..
Wishing it (that ludicrous story about pigs lard) were true does not make it true.
By the way the Pershing story about bullets dipped in pigs blood is also bullshit.

                • anneinpt says:

Please Hunter, I know you feel strongly about this, but can you tone down the language? We’ve discredited the pigs blood stories. Let’s move on now.

    • Hunter says:

Where on Earth did you hear that ludicrous story about pigs lard on buses in Israel? I read once (it probably is an Urban Legend) that the Russians dumped dead Chechen terrorists into ditches and poured pigs entrails all over them, but I do not even believe that was true. Israel is too worried about its world image and what the New York Times says about it to do something as sensible as that. Bus bombing has stopped because the much derided security fence has worked – it is a simple as that.

  2. cba says:

And as of this writing, the CBC News website has NOTHING about the rockets and mortars.

  3. Hunter says:

Wow that Ehud Barak really is a great Defense Minister! The terrorists must be very afraid of him. //

  4. reality says:

even if there were”only 14″ & not 40 thats 14 too many. We’re so inured by all the rockets that if a newspaper gets it wrong we say” only “14! If it had happened that a 2 year old was killed -well too bad what about our children ? This time a border policeman (maybe some 2 year olds father) was terribly injured so why should I worry if a child in gaza is hit? If they wouldn’t fire rockets we’d have no reason to retaliate.By the way a new hasbara group from sderot has started -a private enterprise who are getting their facts across on the news -someone was interviewed today on the news because they are fed up with our (non)explanations the official governments office is putting out.& they have a very good presentation too. Maybe some papers or news outlets abroad will pick up on them

    • anneinpt says:

You’re quite right about the number of missiles that we tend to disregard. I myself am guilty of not reporting on them. They fall almost every day so they’re hardly news any more, which is itself an outrage.

Re the new hasbara group, if you have a link I’d love to get it. Thanks.

  5. Hunter says:

This will continue as long as Ehud Barak is Defense Minister.
